Further publications by the Academy
In addition to the publications arising from research projects and its periodicals, the Academy also publishes several book series and reports, some of which date back to the time of the Academy’s foundation. Others, however, aim to bring members’ current research topics to the attention of a wider public.Once again, the Heidelberg University Library is a key partner in this regard.
With the Heidelberger Akademische Bibliothek, the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities aims to create a forum where the Academy’s members can introduce themselves to the interested public in a new way. [...] The idea is that each member should present a scholarly “business card” here. And taken together, the contributions should reveal the cosmos of the sciences as it is represented at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, with its full diversity of topics, questions, and methods.
[Preliminary Note by the Editors Peter Graf Kielmansegg and Bernhard Zimmermann]
Easily recognizable by its colorful book cover, the series has been published since 2020. Since then, more than 15 volumes have been published, and more are in the works.

The Proceedings of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities document scholarly lectures, studies, and research findings from the Academy’s two classes. As a publication series, they ensure that academic work remains permanently visible and accessible to the scholarly community. These publication series have not been published continuously since the 1990s. However, lectures and similar contributions can be found in the Academy’s Annuals.

The Zentralblatt Mathematik und ihre Grenzgebiete (zbMATH) is one of the most important publications in mathematics, founded in 1931. The Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities has been one of two publishers since 1965 and one of three since 1999. In addition to the Academy, the FIZ-Karlsruhe (external link), as part of the Leibniz Association, and the European Mathematical Society (external link). Until recently, Springer Verlag handled the printing. Originally founded as an abstract journal, zbMATH is now the world’s most comprehensive and longest-running abstract and review service in pure and applied mathematics.
Its current functionality goes far beyond that of an abstract journal. It is now fully digital and offers a wide range of metadata on the publications reviewed. In 2019, full funding for zbMATH was secured through grants from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, ensuring that zbMATH will be operated as an open-access platform under the name zbMATH OPEN in the future.
