Academy Award
The Academy Prize is an award established in 1984 by the Association for the Promotion of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities e.V. (external link) in 1984 to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
This award is awarded annually, alternating between the Mathematical and Natural Sciences Class and the Philosophical and Historical Class:
For the year 2027 (nominations in 2026), the award will be announced by the Philosophical and Historical Class.
The award is endowed with 10,000 €.
Who is eligible for nomination?
The award is awarded for scholarly works that have been published by young researchers in Germany or that have been completed and are ready for publication. The work must have been completed no more than three years prior to the start of the year in which the award ceremony takes place; nominees should not have reached the age of 40 by that time. In special cases requiring justification, exceptions to these restrictions may be made. The award may be shared if multiple authors contributed to the work; however, it may not be divided among several independent works.
Who may submit nominations?
- Full members of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
- Heads of academic institutions at universities in Baden-Württemberg (rectors, deans, Managing Directors, institute directors)
- the heads of non-university research institutes in Baden-Württemberg (Managing Directors)
- Self-nominations are not permitted
