To encourage young scientists and ensure that outstanding scientific achievements receive the recognition they deserve, Prof. Dr. Dr. -Ing. E.h. Jürgen Wolfrum established a research award in 2025 to support young scientists in Baden-Württemberg.
The award is awarded by the Academy’s plenary session upon the recommendation of the Mathematical and Natural Sciences class.
It is endowed with 10,000 €.
Who is eligible for nomination?
The award is given to exceptionally qualified early-career researchers who have distinguished themselves in the field of multidisciplinary collaboration between mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Candidates are evaluated based on their scientific achievements to date. The award is generally awarded annually. Candidates nominated for the award must have received their doctorate no more than eight years ago and must not hold a tenured position. The award cannot be divided among multiple nominees.
Who may submit nominations?
- Full members of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
- Heads of scientific institutions at universities in Baden-Württemberg (rectors, deans, Managing Directors, institute directors)
- the heads of non-university research institutes in Baden-Württemberg (Managing Directors)
- Self-nominations are not permitted
