Symposium of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
The symposium will explore healthy aging from an interdisciplinary perspective, highlighting biological, medical, cultural, philosophical, and sociological approaches to the aging process. The focus will be on issues of longevity and prevention – ranging from biological aging processes and new medications to the prevention of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia, as well as nutrition, physical health, and cognitive health. At the same time, the symposium will examine cultural representations and historical conceptions of old age, as well as the question of what conditions enable a fulfilling life well into old age and a dignified end of life.
