China Writes Differently - Lothar Ledderose at the DAI in Heidelberg
External Event Organized by an Academy Member
Lothar Ledderose has published the book *China Schreibt Anders* in the "Heidelberger Akademische Bibliothek" series of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He is now speaking about it at the DAI.
At a time when China is becoming increasingly important, it is also becoming increasingly important to understand China. There is still much to be done in this regard. Chinese writing is the most complex system of characters ever created by humankind and a unique feature of Chinese culture. An analysis of this system helps us understand the fundamental differences in China—in education, religion, and politics.
Lothar Ledderose is a senior professor of East Asian art history at Heidelberg University. He leads a long-term project at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities dedicated to researching Buddhist stone inscriptions in China.
The event is part of the “China” series. Tickets priced at 11.90 (reduced 9.90) euros are available for advance purchase online at https://dai-heidelberg.de/de/.
