Edition of the older university records of Heidelberg University, whose significant value as sources for institutional, economic, and intellectual history was made accessible through critical editing.

In the first months of 2002, work at the research center focused on completing the final fascicle of Volume II of the Rector’s Records of Heidelberg University. This fascicle is intended to provide users not only with the second half of the text but also with the editorial appendix and the indexes. In accordance with the commission’s decisions, the presentation of the edited text was simplified (as in the first fascicle of the volume); during the reporting period, an index of personal and place names was prepared, as well as—to replace the word and subject index, which will no longer be produced— — a subject-term index was prepared to make the most important topics accessible to a user in a hurry. In addition, a formal description of the archival record was completed.

On July 1, 2002, the Academy dissolved the research unit and assigned the editor to other tasks. The tasks that were still pending at that time, as well as the necessary proofreading work, have since been completed on the side. The series on the rectors’ books will therefore not be continued for the time being; the commission met for the last time in November 2001. This marks the end of the long-term project “History of Heidelberg University.”
