Straddling the revival of Roman law and the development of customary law, this conference aims to examine the trajectories of the codification of medieval legal material. Through the lens of various vernacular languages, with a particular focus on the Gallo-Roman region and Sardinia, the conference will cover a broad chronological span, from the 12th to the 14th century. The codification of law will be examined with a priority placed on the historical, philological, and linguistic analysis of legal texts, without neglecting literary texts (particularly those of the troubadours) or iconographic representations.
