The Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities has elected virologist Hans-Georg Kräusslich as president for another three years. His new term begins on October 1, 2026. Historian Thomas Maissen was elected as the new vice president. He will also take over the position of Vize President of the Philosophical and Historical Class from Sabine Dabringhaus.

The European Research Council (ERC) is providing 2.5 million euros in funding over five years for Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg’s HOTHEAD project at the ZI.

Christoph Markschies was inducted into the Order of Pour le Mérite. Admission to the Order of Pour le Mérite for Science and the Arts is one of the highest honors for science and the arts in Germany.

In addition, Christoph Markschies was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit with Star of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for his outstanding achievements.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Rolf Emmermann most recently worked in the field of expertise of mineralogy and petrology at the GFZ Helmholtz Center for Geosciences in Potsdam.

Pediatric oncologist Stefan Pfister was honored with the Thomas and Doris Ammann Award for his groundbreaking contributions to research on pediatric brain tumors.

Willi Jäger receives the Medal of Honor from the Learned Society of the Czech Republic for his outstanding scientific achievements.
