Fake News and Collective Decision Making. Rapid Automated Assessment of Media Bias
Die Art und Weise, in der die Medien über öffentliche Debatten berichten, hat einen wichtigen Einfluss auf kollektive Entscheidungsfindungsprozesse. Tendenzielle Berichterstattung kann durch spezifische Wortwahl die Wahrnehmung von Nachrichten beeinflussen. Hinzukommt, dass die Berichterstattung auch durch absichtliche Auslassung bzw. Fehldarstellung von bestimmten Details die Wahrnehmung ihrer Leserschaft beeinflussen kann. Im Extremfall präsentieren sogenannte Fake News gänzlich falsche Informationen, um die öffentliche Meinung zu beeinflussen.
Dieses Projekt verbindet eine reiche Forschungstradition in den Sozialwissenschaften zu „Media Bias“ mit zeitgemäßen Techniken aus der Informatik. Der erste Teil des Projekts konzentriert sich auf die technische Realisierung automatisierter Schnellerkennung von Bias mit Methoden der Informatik. Im zweiten, sozialwissenschaftlichen Teil beschäftigen wir uns mit der systematischen Untersuchung davon, wie tendenzielle Darstellung in den Medien am besten kommuniziert werden könnte, um Konsensfindung und kollektive Entscheidungsfindung zu fördern.
